The organisers would like to especially thank Mr Michael Shanly who, through his
company has supported Cookham Regatta as its main sponsor
Welcome to Cookham Regatta - a great day out for those wanting to take part in competitive (or not so competitive) boat and landside activities, or just picnic by the river watching others exert themselves, or browse the many stalls and entertainment events.
Whatever your age, experience or interest, Cookham Regatta is one of the premier “fun” regattas held each September on the beautiful stretch of the Thames at Cookham.
The first Cookham Regatta was in 1882 and continued until the mid 1930’s. There were races for skulls, punts and Canadian canoes, and there was also a parade of boats.
One year there was the unusual presence of an authentic Gondola and Gondolier all the way from Venice. Stanley Spencer, the famous local artist painted a mural of “Christ preaching at Cookham Regatta”

The preparations for the Regatta included elaborate flower displays and candlelit lanterns strung between poles. In the evening launches and barges moored along
the bank from the Ferry Inn were decorated and lit up. A Regimental band and variety show artists entertained the large crowds who came up by train from London.
Cookham Regatta was revived again in 1988 by a group of local enthusiasts in collaboration with Cookham Bridge Rotary Club who ten years ago invited Marlow Thames Rotary Club to help jointly organise the event.
Nowadays the aim of the Regatta is to provide a fun day out for families and friends - and raise money for many Rotary supported charities.
