Rotary is one of the world’s largest charitable organisations with over 1.2 male and female members in 32 countries all willing to make that little bit of extra effort to help our fellow man.

It is probably most famously known internationally for setting up a project  to totally eradicate polio across the globe.

Microsoft President Bill Gates was so impressed with this initiative that his own charity - The Bill and Melissa Gates Foundation - has recently pledged US$350m to Rotary to complete the task.

Rotary clubs exist in most towns across the UK, and here in South Bucks, two local clubs - Cookham Bridge and Marlow Thames joined forces 12 years ago to organise the Cookham Regatta.

Members of both local clubs  enjoy  interesting speakers and varied activities at their weekly meetings. A fun and enjoyable programme is critical to the success of a club.

Besides having great fun in the process, over that period the Clubs have raised in excess of £150,000 for charitable causes

But it is fun with a purpose.

Besides their own personal development, members use their skills to raise funds in order to support local, national and international causes.
