Dragon boat racing began more than 2,000 years ago on the rivers of southern China as a fertility ritual thought to bring good luck to the coming crop season. The boats which are large canoe-like vessels are decorated with carved dragon's heads and the drum beats were intended to keep away the dragons which were said to occupy the rivers.
What you need:
A crew of ten paddlers plus drummer is required (Total 11). Boat, paddles, buoyancy aid and experienced helm will be provided. Soft shoes are vital. No previous experience is required.

Places are limited and will be allocated in sequence by date of receipt of the completed entry and of the appropriate entry fee, so please apply early. If you do not have all the crew details at the time of application you may add these up until: 4th September 2025 using the ‘On-line Entry Update’ button
Please note:
Entry to the Regatta enclosure for race entrants is included in the race entry fee
Non race entrants must pay separately at the entrance on arrival.
Start time:
The racing will commence at 10.00am If your team has a good reason for avoiding the heats before 11.00am then please show your earliest available time on your entry form. Note that 20 minutes for safety briefing will be required on the day.
Race structure
The race structure is based on the 'Double Elimination' system which means that all teams get at least one second race and first round losers will be entered into the Plate Competition. Winners will get more races depending on the total entry and may have four or five races.
